Throughout the rise of the IFL’s young star Chris Horodecki (11-0), there have been claims that the IFL has protected the undefeated lightweight who isn’t quite old enough to drink yet. Fan’s cried foul after Horodecki fell through the ropes in an apparent attempt to get out of a well-sunk guillotine by Bart Palaszewski, and have had heated e-arguments, with many a “YOUR STOOPID” from both sides, over close decisions in the Polish Hammer’s favor . All that protected talk is sure to come to an end at the Grand Prix Finals December 29th, however, when Horodecki takes on Waggney Fabiano (8-1). Or so we thought. Looking to quell those silly “protected fighter” talks, the IFL has recently announced that Fabiano is out of the fight, moving instead to the IFL Featherweight Title fight, and will be replaced by Shad Lierley (2-1), a man Horodecki has already beaten.
This marks the second controversial Grand Prix decision regarding Lierley, who was removed from the first round of the tournament in favor of Palaszewski, despite the Grand Prix qualifier rules dictating that Lierley had earned the match against Horodecki.
Fabiano will take on undefeated L.C. Davis (9-0), who fought twice at lightweight for the Silverbacks, most recently at the IFL Team Semi-Finals.
In the welterweight division, fans were sadly deprived of the chance to watch a series of strong takedowns, followed by twelve minutes of lying on another man, when Antonio McKee withdrew from the tournament before the first round. Instead, fans will have to endure a fight between the Pitbulls’ Delson Helano (13-3) and the Anacondas’ Jay Hieron (13-4) which could potentially, perish the thought, feature a finish.
The middleweight tilt will see the Anacondas’ Benji Radich (17-3), unbeaten in five IFL fights, take on the Wolfpack’s Matt Horwich (20-9-1). Sherdoggers the world over will be anxiously watching this fight to see if they should start a thread about how much they hate fighters thanking God after a win, or asking Horwich where his God was in the loss. You know, because people shouldn’t be allowed to have religious beliefs.
The final belt up for grabs will see the Lions’ Roy Nelson (9-2) take on the Condors’ Antoine Jaoude (8-2) for the IFL’s Heavyweight title.
The event’s underdcard will feature three fights, headlined by Silverbacks standout Rory Markham (12-2) taking on the Pitbulls’ Dan Miller (6-1), who attempted to remove Dave Phillips head via guillotine in the Team Semi-Finals, at a catchweight of 175 lbs.
Also fighting will be middleweights Marcello Salazar (6-1-2) against Alex Cook (8-5) and Elias Rivera (3-2) against the Red Bears’ Tim Kennedy (8-1).
